I have always thought of counter-offers as a good thing. You get that feeling of "Awesome! My boss really does like me!" You go home for the 2nd time saying, "hey honey, I got another raise!" Wow so you jumped your salary by probably 20% maybe more..

So you have been working there for.. 2 years... and you never got a raise that big. Makes you think... I could have been making this much the entire time, but my boss never pulled the trigger until I made the first move.
Good thing to think about from the article:
You now walk around being thought of as having one foot out the door.
Your boss probably can't trust you now. Thinking you used company time to find a new job...and now he has you there because the offer is too good to say no to... and he has the time to look for a new person. That is interesting...
